"Cherry Blossom Return"

Thirteen years ago, I sold my very first painting — Cherry Blossoms — to a coworker. I priced it absurdly high, secretly hoping she'd walk away and let me keep it a little longer. She didn't blink. She bought it, and I remember feeling like I'd sold off a piece of myself.

It took me a while to see that moment differently. That painting didn't leave me — it went out into the world and kept blooming somewhere else. The loss I felt turned into a feeling of spreading joy and my calling.

This piece is my return to that same subject, painted thirteen years to the day: soft washes of pink and white, loose blossoms caught mid-fall, on the same size canvas I started with. This one will leave without the fear about what happens after it leaves the studio.
